Build Your Own Bee Hotel Workshop
While honeybees get a lot of the buzz these days, native and solitary bees are facing many of the same problems – habitat loss, pesticides and lack of flower sources (to name a few). Native bees are also important pollinators and are quite adept and pollinating many native flowers and plants (and can even be more efficient than honeybees in some cases). Bee hotels provide a place for certain solitary bees that typically live in wood to build their nests and lay their eggs. This past Saturday in Toronto, we hosted a fun workshop with The Shop and taught everyone how to build their own bee hotels, why solitary bees are important and what they can do to help. Thank you to everyone who came out and sharing your passion for the bees!
